Conrail OCS 11 - 800388 - Model

If Conrail 1 and Conrail 4 are the hardest HO scale OCS cars to model, Conrail 11, the staff sleeper, would be the easiest. Rapido trains made a beautiful model of this Erie / Erie Lackawana 10-5 sleeper and even had a custom run of the car in Conrail OCS paint for N scale. They never had a run in Conrail paint, which is a real shame. I’m sure that many modellers would pick it up in a heartbeat.

The Rapido model isn’t 100% accurate for the Conrail era, though, so I had to make some adjustments, mainly to the underbody which now has some custom built equipment, steps fixed in the down position and tubular diaphragms. The model interior was painted to the match the real Conrail 11 and has had some detailing as well.

All-in-all this car was made easy thanks to Rapido and I’m grateful to have it in the fleet.

Although the car dimensions were already accurate, these Conrail diagrams helped ensure everything was in the right place.
