York’s Railway Museum

Flying Scotsman at the National Railway Museum in York

A familiar face to America, the Flying Scotsman, still runs the British rails and was a pleasant sight to see as it sat splendidly in the sun. It’s hard to imagine it stranded in the States. Much like the J Class and Kodak feel like a perfect pairing, seeing the Flying Scotsman at the National Railway Museum in York felt just right.

As described on my About page, the Railway Museum and the poem by W.H. Auden, “This is the night mail”, served as inspiration for this site. In my own head, the poem was written about Flying Scotsman. Make sure you have time to visit and learn about the history of the railways. It all started here. Look closely.
